Background & Beginnings

Shreepal “Shreeps” J. Zala combines his legal acumen for intellectual property and entertainment law with a client and creator-first perspective drawn from his own experience.

Born in New Hampshire to East Indian immigrants and raised near Philadelphia, Shreepal attended The Haverford School, an elite all-boys preparatory school, before earning his B.A. in Economics from Emory University.

After beginning his career in wealth management, he pursued a serious creative outlet and studied music performance at the Atlanta Institute of Music, known for its intensive, industry-focused training.  He transitioned into a career as a musician and performer, embracing the gig economy lifestyle.

After over a decade and a half of performing, mostly up and down the East Coast, Shreepal enrolled at Georgia State University’s College of Law earning recognition in Sports, Entertainment, and Media Law and a CALI Award for Future Excellence in Information Privacy Law.

He founded Zala IP Law to help creators and businesses succeed through proper IP protection and strategy, to advocate for stronger laws regarding U.S. intellectual property, and to support human authorship in the digital age.

Vision & Philosophy

Attorney Zala credits his unique personal experience and growth mindset for leading him where he is.  In particular, he has a deep appreciation for the workings of the creative and purpose-driven mind.  In his own words:

“The creator or inventor’s mind is wired to flow in certain ways, like living on a different frequency bandwidth than the rest of society.  In my case I started studying positive psychology as an adult and discovered growth meant both creative and academic fulfillment.  Several years later, licensing to practice law was its own freedom.  It felt much closer to realizing my full self, which is something I carry with me in my law practice…

I’m thankful to help other people pursue their dreams.  I understand the drive, the grind, and the compulsion to create, which in my case is through singing and making music.  And what I try to convey is to think about what your full self looks like, personally and professionally, and work backwards from there.  Just that one perspective can spring you forward.  If you need help for something legal along the way, call my firm.”

Attorney Zala is committed to defending the ideals and integrity of U.S. intellectual property law, grounded in the belief that intellectual property helps drive progress and success and that we all celebrate individual rights to human authorship.  When he founded Zala IP Law, he also sensed an opportunity to shape the law firm’s purpose around the evolving, uncertain legal issues central to contemporary discussions about AI, copyright, and the law.
